The Whiskey Sour
The whiskey sour is one of the oldest cocktail recipes still in drinking circulation. It may also be the first ever example of a sour alcoholic drink.
Ingredients
2 oz whiskey
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz tsp sugar
1 cherry
1/2 lemon slice
Instructions
Put all the ingredients in a mixing glass and add ice cubes. Strain into a classic highball glass and then add a the lemon slice and a cherry to garnish.
The Moscow Mule
This beauty was invented in the USA to poupularise vodka. The ginger beer and lime evoke thoughts of the tropics. It’s also sometimes called a vodka buck. It should be made with high-quality vodka, a spicy ginger beer, lime juice and garnished with a wedge of lime. It’s usually served in a copper mug.
Ingredients
1 1/4 oz vodka
3 oz ginger beer
1 tsp sugar syrup
1/4 oz lime juice
1 sprig mint
1 slice lime
Instructions
In a copper mug pour vodka over ice. Add sugar syrup and lime juice. Top with ginger beer and stir. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
Mint Julep
Long beloved by Southern society types, the mint julep is a cocktail consisting primarily of bourbon, water, crushed or shaved ice and fresh mint.
Ingredients
2 oz bourbon
8 sprigs of mint
1 tsp of sugar
Instructions
Put mint and sugar with a dash of water in a mixing glass. Add shaved ice and bourbon. Shake the mixture until frosted and pour all of it into a pretty cup. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
The Bloody Mary
A bloody Mary is a cocktail containing vodka, tomato juice and different variations combine a variety of other spices and flavourings. Conveniently, the celery stalk lends an air of healthy respectability to this potent brunch drink.
Ingredients
1 1/2 oz vodka
2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp horseradish
Tomato juice
4 dashes Tabasco sauce
Celery salt
Fresh ground pepper
Salt
Instructions
Put all ingredients in a mixing glass, shake briskly and pour into a pint glass over ice. Add a celery branch to garnish.
The White Russian
A white russian cocktail is made with vodka, coffee liquer and cream, served with ice in a beautiful glass. Sometimes, milk will be used as am alternative to cream.
Ingredients
1 oz vodka
1/2 oz coffee liquor
1 oz heavy cream
Instructions
Pour vodka, coffe liquor and heay cream into cocktail glass. Stir well.
